The embedding of the Virgin Mary might be reduced to something involving her posture, gaze, and infant son Herndon’s embedding is tied to her distinctive look. Herndon, who is forty-three, has sea-glass-blue eyes, a round, pale face, and persimmon-colored hair she tends to style it with bangs, a short bob in front, and a long braid in the back. systems to process prompts such as “Cubist painting of a tabby cat, wearing a hot-dog costume and eating a hot dog” or “country-club application, as a sestina.” At Torreciudad, the sculptures and paintings on display all had aesthetic and material differences, yet there was something consistent-ineffable but essential-that made the art works legible depictions of the same figure.Īround this time, Herndon and Dryhurst, who is also her primary collaborator, had been experimenting with the embedding of “Holly Herndon” in the data used to “train” text-to-image generators such as Dall-E and Stable Diffusion. Moving from art work to art work, the couple discussed Mary’s “embedding.” In machine learning, embeddings distill data down to concepts. They were particularly taken with an exhibit of Virgin Mary iconography from around the world: a faceless, abstract stone carving from Cameroon a pale, blue-eyed statuette from Ecuador a Black Mary from Senegal, dressed in an ornate gown of blue and gold. Herndon and her husband, Mathew Dryhurst, had been on a short vacation in the mountains nearby. The sanctuary, built in the nineteen-seventies, sits on a cliff overlooking an inviting blue reservoir, in a remote area just south of the Pyrenees. Here, we’ll discuss why photographers should harness the power of faceless portrait photography-and how.Last fall, the artist and musician Holly Herndon visited Torreciudad, a shrine to the Virgin Mary associated with the controversial Catholic group Opus Dei, in Aragón, Spain. Regardless of your genre or specialty, there’s room for every photographer to incorporate faceless photography into their portfolio. Better yet, the absence of features also leaves room for viewers to see themselves more strongly-or their loved ones. It provides interest and an element of drama to your shot. A faceless portrait means we can’t identify the subject, but that doesn’t mean the image is any less powerful-quite the contrary.Ī faceless portrait will likely evoke different interpretations. Rather, it allows photographers to find another creative way to tell a story. The absence of a face, however, does not stop a portrait from representing a human subject. How can one take a portrait without a face? Surely, a face is the very thing that defines what it means to be a portrait? Faceless portrait photography encapsulates captivating details and striking compositions.Ī “faceless portrait” may sound like something of a paradox. A new hole is made in the skin and the skin is sutured around the belly button – giving the patient a beautiful new navel. Finally, the skin above the belly button is pulled down toward the pubic bone and sutured into place. The fascia and rectus abdominus muscles are then tightened by bringing the separated muscles together. In a full tummy tuck, skin and fat are loosened away from the abdominal muscles up to the bottom of the rib cage, and typically all the skin and fat below the belly button is removed. It is generally used on people with very lax muscles plus excess amounts of loose skin. Full Abdominoplasty Tummy Tuckįull Abdominoplasty is the most invasive type of tummy tuck surgery. This procedure is often performed on people who are left with a lot of excess skin after a large weight loss, such as those who have had bariatric surgery or “stomach stapling”. Typically, a dermolipectomy is recommended for patients who have a higher degree of skin laxity than mini-tummy tuck candidates. Dermolipectomy Tummy Tuckĭuring dermolipectomy, excess skin and fat is removed and the belly button is repositioned. A mini-tummy tuck will typically leave a much shorter scar than a full abdominoplasty or dermolipectomy. A person is a candidate for a mini-tummy tuck if they do not need muscle tightening and the navel does not need to be repositioned. Mini-Tummy TuckĪ “mini-tummy tuck” (technically called a partial or modified abdominoplasty) removes excess skin and fat, but does not tighten muscles. This procedure is not as invasive as a full abdominoplasty, and is best for people who you have generally taut skin, but loose muscles and fascia. The surgeon tightens the abdominal muscles with sutures – and often liposuction is done to remove fat at the same time. But an endoscopic tummy tuck does not tighten loose skin on the stomach area.Įndoscopic tummy tuck surgery is performed using a small camera, and several tiny surgical instruments, that are inserted through small incisions. Endoscopic AbdominoplastyĪn endoscopic abdominoplasty is often performed on people having weakened muscles of the lower abdomen, and excess abdominal fat, but who still have fairly tight abdominal skin. There is the little bit of vanilla that’s present in most marshmallows but like the real things, the taste is mainly sugar. There isn’t actually anything wild going on in the taste department but it has a basic sweet taste. It’s how I would imagine an artisan version of JetPuff to taste. It’s also a bit firmer than sticky which I thought worked well. The swirl is extremely thick and has the authentic sticky texture of marshmallow fluff but it’s less airy and slightly smoother. The real standout of this pint is the marshmallow. These are probably one of my favorite nut mix ins because they aren’t crazy but they have a noticeable size and texture change and a little pop of taste. I usually don’t really taste nuts very well but these actually had a taste along with their crunch! It was almost like they were roasted in something sweet because they seemed to give a bit of a sugary flair to the pint. They were nice and crunchy and I had about ten full ones and probably twenty or more little bits. This is probably one of my favorite chocolate bases because it’s so heavy with such a complex but satisfying taste. The firmness goes away but it stays very creamy and rich as it melts. It really nails the simple flavor with such quality that it’s complex. It’s definitely not a bitter dark flavor but instead of being too sweet it has an amazing depth to it. Once it had tempered a bit it was still incredibly rich and had a super deep milk chocolate taste. The first thing that stood out about this pint was how firm the base was. The ice cream looks slightly darker around the edges and has white pools of marshmallow poking through: That’s the basic concept of rocky road so I suppose I’m looking for the excellent quality of execution. They describe it as “velvety swirls of marshmallow, roasted almonds and legendary chocolate ice cream coming together in a playful ice cream delight”. That said, rocky road isn’t exactly innovative and there is a lot of competition. This is probably their most unique and loved flavor. Haagendazs tends to specialize in basic, common flavors done with spectacular quality. 12/20/2023 0 Comments Minimalist style guyThis basically just looks like keeping the clutter as contained as possible, whether that means hanging a curtain in front of your under-desk space, storing items in underbed storage, or using moveable organizer drawers as “junk drawers” or “miscellaneous drawers.”Īnother main facet of minimalist living that applies to a dorm room is thinking through the purpose of your possessions. My best advice to manage the inevitable clutter is to find small ways to keep it out of sight. However, if I remember anything from my way-back-when college days, it’s that staying organized and not accruing clutter as a student isn’t really possible. Getting rid of excessive clutter is one of the most important aspects of minimalist living, which also applies to dorm life. 1Cover Up The Clutterįirst things first when it comes to creating a minimalist dorm room: cut the clutter. You don’t need to have absolutely everything right out of the gate. Start with some of the basics and add from there. There are tons of dorm preparation lists out there that will try to tell you exactly what you need in a college dorm, but lots of those lists include extra items that, in my opinion, aren’t necessary. What To Buy For A Minimalist Dorm (And What Not To) Keep it cozy! Consider adding warm knit blankets, surrounding your bedside in plants, or adding some string or lamp lights. Keep in mind that your bed will be the space where you start and end each day. When you save a file as a PDF, you are essentially packaging all of the components of your design into a single file. If you were to send that file to a printer, they would not have the same information that your computer has. For example, Microsoft Word prints by using the information in the file that you are working with as well as information stored on your computer, such as font and color settings. Most file formats you use to print at home or in your office are not designed to include all of the information that a professional print provider would need. Why PDFs are the preferred file format for printing Understanding how to add fonts to PDF documents is crucial for maintaining the work you’ve put into your digital designs, ensuring that what you see on your screen is what gets printed on paper. Corrupted fonts, incompatible fonts, or fonts that are missing altogether are issues that can easily be avoided by embedding your fonts into your PDFs. Some of the most frequent issues print providers encounter with customer files are regarding fonts. When sending documents for professional printing, ask yourself, “Are the fonts embedded in the PDF files?” If not, the original design’s visual coherence is at risk, as the printer’s system may convert missing fonts into less suitable alternatives. A PDF can be set up to give your printing company all of the pertinent information they need to effectively print your design project while avoiding problems and delays. PDFs are the preferred file format for most, if not all, professional print providers.
