The nvidia shield works with common key presses such as up, down, left, right, enter, escape etc. The FLIRC can accept any IR inputs and be routed to keyboard presses. The MRX 990 can emulate any remote control. You can tell your 990 to use an old TV remote laying around you could program 1, 2, 3, 4.9, 0 into the disk up, down, left, right, etc it really won't care what the codes are. But you can go get another remote control from another room and program that in. That would cause up arrow to send an up to the shield while also turning your TV off. Just make sure it's not conflicting like you don't want to program "up arrow" using the "power off" on your TV in the same room. Put that into your shield and you're good to go.Īny remote will work it does not matter. ![]() When that is done, the flirc is basically going to look like a usb keyboard where the keys used are the remote you programmed. Program all useful keys into the flirc using the remote buttons you want. As I said, up, down, left, right, enter, escape are likely keys for sure. If you're not sure what keys you want, hook up a usb keyboard onto your nvidia shield and press keys to learn what they all do. Program all the keys for the shield with this. So you would say select "up arrow" in the flirc app, press up arrow on your remote, and it should learn that IR code is to be matched to keyboard up arrow. There you will teach your flirc each keyboard key and give it a remote control input to use for that key. Then put your flirc into a computer and download / run the flirc app. The point is you need the MRX 990 to send some IR - any IR on the devices preset you want to control your shield. You can load a code, use one of the defaults, or find a remote control laying around the house you no longer use and program those codes into the MRX990. So, what you want to do is program your MRX 990 to any device that uses the buttons you want. To the nvidia shield, the flirc is just a usb keyboard.
